Regionally, STETS is affiliated with Thai TESOL. STETS is also an active member of IATEFL, which allows us access to the following IATEFL special interest groups:
  • Business English
  • Learner Independence
  • MUESLI (Computer)
  • Testing
  • Video and Teacher Training

  Associate Membership with IATEFL

For many years, STETS was an institutional member of IATEFL. However, since 1996, IATEFL has offered "Associate Membership"; the 1998-1999 Executive Committee decided this was more suited to STETS work, and would allow STETS to operate on a basis of equal status with IATEFL. An agreement was therefore signed with IATEFL, and STETS is now an "Associate Member". Some benefits are:

a.

Information Exchange:

IATEFL publicises STETS membership and events at its Annual Conference. In turn, STETS publicises IATEFL events at its own events.

b.

Conference Exchange:

IATEFL offers free registration to STETS representative member every year. STETS aims to send a representative to the IATEFL Conference at least once every three years. STETS offers the same facility to IATEFL.

If STETS wishes, it can use a small version of the IATEFL logo under its own name on letterheads and publications.

c.

Membership Recruitment:

STETS can recruit full individual members or associate members of IATEFL.

STETS will make IATEFL Associate Membership or Full Membership a condition of membership of its own organisation , and can use the name.

Affiliation between STETS and Society for Technical Communication (Singapore)
The President of STETS (Ms. Manee Lugg) and the President of the Society for Technical Communication STC-Singapore (Ms Tan Joo Khim) agreed on 9 January 2003 to form an affiliation between the two societies.

STC-Singapore’s members are mostly technical communicators/writers from the private sector. Currently, there are 23 full members and approximately 80 Newsgroup members. With this affiliation with STC-Singapore, STETS members are able to benefit from STC members’ instructional and practical experiences in areas like e-learning and instructional design

In addition, such an affiliation enables both societies to hold joint STETS/STC-Singapore events that are open to all members from both societies. The most recent joint event was held on 26 July at the National University of Singapore on Instructional Design and the Prospects of E-Learning in Singapore. A more diverse audience for such professional events can lead to better networking opportunities and more stimulating discussions for our STETS members.
